Hessen is an independent trading firm based out of Montreal, Quebec. They are a young, passionate, successful group of people who came together to prosper themselves and others who work with them. They have strong values and wanted these portrayed through their website.

As the only designer on this project, I worked closely with the company’s founders to recreate their workplace in digital form on their website. They needed a site that married their core values with photography that emotes the tangible office environment they foster. They wanted clients to look at the site and immediately feel a sense of place.

Hessen’s office aims to evoke the company’s professionalism while also celebrating their youth and entrepreneurial history. An open floor plan with dark wood and brick detailing connects seamlessly with the PS4 console, foosball table and free flowing coffee pots. In order to accurately capture the unique feeling of the office, I created a site that utilized their brand colors of green and white to design solid shapes and clear lines, evoking a sense of strength and honesty.

Because the office space is integral to their business, the photography needed to portray an environment you can sense from just looking at the pictures. I worked closely with photographer Kaitlyn Crossley to achieve these photos. We brainstormed tones, techniques, and angles to achieve the perfect atmosphere to capture the office’s aura. We focused specifically on the earthy green and red tones from the plants and brick wall to tie into the website redesign and Hessen’s overall branding.
